This smells

Yesterday, we learned that Peter Thiel - a literal vampire capitalist billionaire famous for his misogynist and anti-democratic views and his desire to evade taxes by creating his own "nation" - is apparently a New Zealand citizen. Which has led people to ask the obvious question: how the hell did that happen? Because normally, gaining New Zealand citizenship requires a prolonged period of residency, which in Thiel's case would have been noticed by the media. Instead, it looks as if the Minister simply granted it to him secretly under the "exceptional circumstances of a humanitarian or other nature" clause, allowing him to completely bypass the normal process.

The government owes us an explanation on this, and it had better be a good one. Because the natural conclusion is that the "exceptional circumstances" are that Peter Thiel is a billionaire. And that simply looks corrupt.
