Urgency again

As predicted, the government has just put the House into urgency for the Auckland supercity bill and a swathe of other legislation. As a result, there will be no member's day tomorrow.

This is not "urgent" legislation by any means, and the government isn't really bothering to pretend it is. Instead, it is repeating the excuse from last week that it "just wants a few more hours in the sitting week". The real reason is to avoid a prolonged pubic debate on a potentially divisive issue; instead, they get it all out of the way by tomorrow, rather than having it drag on until the end of next week.

IMHO, that is a piss-poor reason to subvert the Parliamentary process.
